I Am Above the Influence
I am above the influence
For I am aware the consequence
If I choose the corrupted path
The statistics waiting to classify my soul
Oppressors can’t steal away this joy,
Though they try every level of tactics, every obvious ploy
I can see the sunshine even when shadows of darkness fog the pathway
Through the eye of the storm I see the outcome of peace
Discriminators can’t take away this joy I have inside
No need to hide my wings if I choose to fly high as I please
Enjoying this day with such ease
Even if I appear consumed by complacency
I am bypassing negativity contagious to the soul and mind
I am above the influence
For I am aware the consequence
The statistics waiting to disguise my identity
I have no sad songs and my heart to sing
No blue notes to play in the key of “this day”
Through the eye of the storm I see… paradise
I don’t have to think twice about where I longed to be
I am sure of one thing… I am still for right now and that’s all that seems to matter
I am above the influence
For I am aware the consequence
The opinions of others … they desire my mind to process
Swallow whole the notion I am inferior to them,
How I am an intern in the name of status quo
To yield the ignorance that breeds lost troubled souls
They fail to know…
Naysayers can’t possess this joy I have inside
Where love and happiness collide
I am granted blessed with another day to see
A mind elevated
Above the influence
