Notes About The Poem

For Tania Kitchin's I Am a Tree Poetry Contest

Willow - Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I Am a Willow Tree

See me here by the bank of the river.
I am a tall and leafy green willow.
In the heat of summer, I deliver
welcoming shade that spreads out below
the graceful drape of my canopy’s flow.
As softly as silent tears my limbs cascade,
quivering in summer’s slightest breeze.
Lithely I sway while offering my shade.
Souls weary and sweltering I put at ease.
Come rest beneath my beauty if you please.

I’m so impressed by the consummate ease with which you depict the willow tree in all its splendour. The notion of a tree as shelter I’m quite partial to. Superb Howard

So delicately written and woven, Andrea... And by the way, I am a pink chipmunk who is 9 feet tall. ~ Per Sunny Vacation :) :)

I love willow trees. Alas there are only a few of them in Malta and you have to search for them as we have little water in the country side. A lovely poem.

Hello Andrea, This poem reminded me, no better rest than beneath the willow. I can almost here the whispering of the leaves. Memories activated in the moving psithurism. -Richard

I wrote a rough draft last night about the Weeping Willow, this morning the contest was already full, so I am MOST happy that you wrote about her (they're all female to me.) Poem is beautiful, you did her proud. Thank you. Love, CayCay

An exquisite entry, Andrea. The weeping willow stands as the most revered tree among poets. We shall repose and discover tranquility beneath her shelter.
