I am a girl

I have spent my entire life being "just a girl," taught to be silent and obedient more than to breathe freely. Society taught me to play house and raise baby dolls as toys because I was "just a girl." A girl who was conditioned to believe that her role was to stay quiet and serve others. I can't even speak up about my dreams, my likes, or for myself because I am told that even the heavens will curse me for breathing too loudly.

If I were to die, bury me with clothes and chains of steel and wood, for even in death I can't be safe from men. Give me flowers; dress me in pink, for I never hated it. Just bury me with my name and my mother's, for I never liked my father's name. Offer me large amounts of food, for I never ate to my heart's content, for I was told to eat like a girl. And how was a girl supposed to eat? And who are you to tell me how much to eat?

If I die, send me wishes and whispers of love, though don't pray for me, for I don't believe there is a God, and if there is one, then God is a He, since only men are capable of cruelty and lies. For if God were a She, she would have never let the world suffer or let women be mistreated. So let your wishes and whispers be carried by the winds and the oceans, for there is no God in my heart, since God is a He.

Let my mother and sisters be the last people I see, for on that day I never want to see a creature that is my father or brother, nor those who call themselves my uncles or cousins, for even among relatives and family, a girl is never safe, neither on earth nor in the heavens. We were taught religion, but all it teaches us is to be slaves to men, for even in religion, girls are not humans. Religion is a cult to brainwash us.

For I hate men. For I hate God. For I hate life. For I hate men. For I hate God.

For I don't hate life.
