I Went For a Walk Today
I met Death today
With tears within my eyes
No way forward and no way back
This life I now despise.
No.
I didn’t wish to die today
But I didn’t wish to live
In roaring silence all alone,
An empty tank.
Nothing left to give.
So, I fought with Death today
Thoughts that wouldn’t go away
Yesterday, tomorrow, the next day too
Each unease begins to weigh.
*************
I went for a walk today
Ten thousand steps within my mind
No sense of how the day would end
Nor what to leave behind.
*************
A pointed search to live today
To find a grasp to hang on by
The faintest glow to light the way
A pursuit for courage to apply.
The haves I’ve had and not the nots’
A subtle promise to a friend
Life’s pleasures that result in smiles
Loved ones’ milestones to attend.
*************
I went for a walk today
Down a raging river towards its end
A crumbling bank on water’s edge
One misplaced step to just descend.
*************
Yes, I met with Death today
And yes, he’d come for me
Yet ev’ry single troubled thought
And Death, today,
Didn’t quite agree.
Yes, I met with Death today,
And I know we’ll meet again
My war to wait for natures time
There’ll be other battles until then.
