Notes About The Poem

Hiya's Hymn of the Heart Contest ~ 7/19/26

Hymn of the Heart

Seasons change several times in everyone's life
The wealthy lose riches, and the wise become fools
That's a flaw no spool of thread can mend.
So, it's been with my life sagas as they unfolded,
each one was 'a season of the heart.'

I've learned that looking back can't change a thing
like when a wedding ring is removed from a finger
Some memories that linger are best left buried
I realized that I can't hold yesterdays in my hands
when today demands that I should move on
and tomorrow... I won't look that far ahead
because it's like making a wish upon a star.
I stop hoping for forgiveness when it's not given
no matter who was to blame, it hurts the same
That's not the way to find happiness in living

I'd rather find a reason to hum or sing
a hymn that will spill from my lips
to become a song I kissed with an opera octave
Eights lyrical bars as if they were spiritually divine
Can you hear these hibiscus hymns of mine
or read eight entrancing lines of my poetic verse?

I wrote them when his gentle breeze touched my soul
He was a tempest wind that stirred my sleeping senses,
until I lost control over my heart and soul
I bared myself to him in a symphony we created
but when our pitch perfect harmony fell apart
it left my heart in pieces, like broken strings
of a violin verse between venom and venus.
Poisonous notes that tasted like a dreadful death
stealing my breath, for which there was no antidote.
Pain born; tarnished and torn is the chorus a poet bleeds

My need was to pen words to empty my heavy heart
Indigo thoughts of love lost, scribbled in sorrow...
Verses written by what once was my romantic soul
Crumbled pages my muse refused to read,
scolding me saying, "It's time to plant within your heart
a new seed to take you from the dark into the light.
One that will have you singing in a joyful voice."

She hounded me until I had no choice but to write
Long into the starlit night, when moonbeams shone
I felt the urge to let my emotions freely flow
as if my muse had ensconced herself within my mind
And so, I wrote the song my soul never seeked
and breathed a sigh of relief when it was done...
Lyrics that told of brighter days that lie ahead
I gave my heart wings to fly and to my soul...
more control for in my hymn to the heart, I found both.
No violins needed to play depressing, doleful notes
Another season of the heart I had survived
I had no doubt another was soon to arrive
for as wilted petals fall from a fragile withered flower...
there's a new bud beginning to bloom

Healing is an art, which can't be learnt, it only comes to those who are brave enough to rehearse the rhythm of acceptance and are willing to let go of the toxicity that has been holding themselves ~ it's never easy! I really admire how brilliantly you've woven the prompts throughout, so effortlessly, making them your own! I just wanna say, you are a truly admirable soul, and you inspire many with your golden quill ~ and I'm blessed to hv met u here, Congratulations in your top win in my first contest here! Nailed it! 🌹❤️‍🩹✨🌙⭐🌹❤️‍🩹

Dear Hiya, if a poet cannot write about the realities of his or her life… their poetry does not come from places that have been wounded or known true joy in life. I thank you quite sincerely for a placement in your contest, as well as for offering poets the opportunity to create emotional verses.

Dear sweet Linnszz, you really left my heart feeling so much with this very philosophical, rich and powerful write that speaks not only the language of resilience but also, the way of healing in a very wise way! 🌹❤️‍🩹 Not many can comprehend the complexities of life and fathom the details that drowning in grief brings. It is not in the sinking, but in the deep diving in the darkness and then rising towards the light 🥹🕊️ So evocatively youve shown the authenticity of your soul, the seasons of life that your heart has witnessed ~

Hi Lin, I'm thinking about you and came here though I have not written anything new. Just wanted to let your words touch my heart. Dealing with loss in life (loss of all kinds) requires being able to deal with memories in a constructive way...just as you have described here. How do we look back at hurt and change our feelings about what has happened to us? It's so important and you touch on it with such skillful poetry. You're making me smile! Hope you are well, of course!!

~ about life! You seem to show acceptance and gratitude for every lesson, your poetry doesnt make me think wow you need proper healing < but rather wow I need to heal like she has! Such strength is attractive my beautiful soul! Your language is hot!!! Your experiences are what made you the wise intelligent soul you are today! I wish the whole world would be the same! Many need to learn how to let go gracefully! Not with resentment and bitterness eating their soul that it leaks everywhere even thru poetry and whenever they speak! Pleasure reading! Fave this is! Sending you light always

What have I written to deserve a continued comment from you, Ink? Merci, wildflower for such praises you've offered my poetry and my soul. Our hearts feel the same pains, shuns and wounds. Dwelling in self-pity only digs us deeper into an abyss from which we will have to eventually rise. Heartache touches each one of us, but it's how we deal with it that allows us the chance to become whole again. Walking away is never easy, but to be able to do it with even a modicum of dignity is something that is our saving grace. You are always in my corner shining your light in front of me. For that and for being my friend, I thank you

Dear Linnersz, I have come to realize just like you, to accept also the fact that everything and everyone in life almost is seasonal, what lasts forever is sometimes if you are lucky good memories, because the bad ones take control amidst human nature to look back at the past through rose tinted glasses, my glasses are polished, no longer dusty, and i admire the fact that you show strength and resilience, you do not dwell in self pity or victimize yourself for all that you have learned

The beauty in your words is that they are always easy to understand and do not veil behind metaphors and jumbled alliterations and that is what poetry should be about (not that I am an expert and am guilty of a lack of brevity)... I hope your poem is judged on its brilliance. For me it reads like someone making peace with the changing seasons of the heart. I especially appreciated how the poem doesn't deny pain but shows healing as something gradual and not easily won.

There's a fine line to walk when writing Alliteration. Some poets are wise enough to know the boundary. Some use words only because they begin with the same letter. Few can use it successfully without the jumble. Thank you for finding my poem so much to your liking. Your accolades deserve my sincere gratitude. There's no use in denying the pain of heartbreak. We must accept it, and it's certainly not easy to heal, but living goes on and so must we. There's always hope if we want to believe in it. I think it's vital to our heart's recovery. Thanks again.

Dear Dotti, 3 times! I am truly honored that you felt the emotions that I tried to arouse in my lines. At the same time, I'm saddened that it brought you to tears of despair. We do heal, even if not always completely, but we move on. I value your thoughts and I think you're amazing as well. Hugs, sweet friend.
