Notes About The Poem

Our grandson, Cody, that has lived with us for years, has HD, it is inherited brain disease, but does show up occasionally for some reason in a family where it has never been but this is very rare. He has been getting worse for months now and he had a violent episode last Wednesday and attacked one of my other grandsons who is his stepbrother and 15 years of age. Then on Friday, he was doing things that made me feel threatened and I was going to call 911 to get them to send a mediator to see if we could get him to go to the ER to get admitted into a mental facility to get re-evaluated, but he grabbed the phone from me, cursed out the operator and threw the phone so they arrested him. I am in a horrible situation now.

Huntington's Disease


 Violent outburst
                  At variable lengths of time
                          Never knowing when it will happen

Insanity reaches out
   Damages
        Destroys
               Diminishes happiness 
                                 In living 

Life is like 
           Walking on brittle eggshells
                                Afraid they'll make a sound
                                                    Then crack and snap

Love?
     Can it conquer
                Insanity?

So sad... ! Though never experienced it firsthand, I can imagine the horror of the situation . I too feel the trauma fully and can imagine what you are undergoing right now. Prayers, dear Sara.

Valsa, we (my daughters and I) went to an attorney yesterday. He told us to start by trying to get a legal guardianship so that a family member can act on his behalf. We have to see if we can get at least one of his doctors who will fill out documents that are needed to get the guardianship, then we have to find out if we can get a place for him to live once he has been stabilized by getting him on medicine (we are sure that he went off of what he was supposed to be taking) because he can't live with me anymore by court order. Daniel, it has not been easy and since we know he has a brain disease, it is really hard to deal with the situations that come to us. Since my husband is deceased, I don't feel that I have a protector here in my home, so it put me in a really bad situation. Thank you for the visit with kind and understanding comments. ⭐ Sara K.
