Notes About The Poem

Hummingbirds

For my friend Ahmad, who requested a poem about hummingbirds :) No hummingbirds Nowhere hummingbirds What the eff are hummingbirds? Birds, the world is filled with flocks They have the weirdest names I am NOT playing games No regulars like sparrows or hawks (screamers) Anhimidae I'm asking you, what are they (magpie goose) Anseranatidae Are they fowl, or birds of prey? (ducks, geese, and swans) Anatidae Do we eat them, yay or nay? But no hummingbirds Nowhere hummingbirds What the eff are hummingbirds? Birds, there's small ones and real big Birds that fly and birds that run Birds you eat , or keep for fun SO many birds, it makes me sick (megapodes) Megapodiidae Are they straight or are they gay? (chachalacas, currasows, and guans) Cracidae I even like the blue and grey Jay (guineafowl) Numididae Hand their juicy bits on a tray But no hummingbirds Nowhere hummingbirds What the eff are hummingbirds? You wanted a poem about hummingbirds Well here it is my lovely friend Do you know how much time I spent Investigating your silly hummingbirds? WHERE I LIVE THERE ARE NO HUMMINGBIRDS! *** February 6, 2017

I bet Darren you do not live in southern California, since here we have lots of Trochilidae...... I didn't know that you're an Ornithologists.... Cute poem

You do have a wonderful sense of humour, Duir! And I can imagine you spending quite a bit of time researching too! Not sure if you are in hospital yet bro, but thinking of you! Great poem too!

The hummingbird is a symbol for going back in time. It is the only bird that can fly backwards.

Owww, if only I had known that, I'd have written him a different poem. But it's okay, he loves this one :)

I can understand how it would be difficult to force write a topic you are not familiar with or see. You did well with the writing and humor. I have them here in the summer though. They are beautiful and make little sounds as they arrive to eat, but are territorial at feeders , going after others that come around. I also saved one once that flew from my hand. :)

Yes? Hah, so nice! My boyfriend tells me they can really hover, it's such a shame we don't have them here. We have only a very boring assortment of birds here 0.o

What a shame you have no hummingbirds in your area, they are such magical and enchanting little creatures. I have many around my house and like Carolyn said below, I put out special feeders for them. They are usually very jittery and timid creatures, but the hummingbirds that have visited my house over the years I think know me now. I have even tried feeding them by hand, still working on that part. :) Nicely done Darren.

Haha yeah, my boyfriend tells me the same :) I honestly only saw them in documentaries on TV :D Owwww, that would be so lovely if they start eating from your hand! Would love to see that, hope you succeed soon.

LOL There are plenty of hummingbirds where I live, Darren. People here put out special feeders for them. I got the feeling you didn't like researching all these birds and it made me chuckle. A fun poem!

I had absolutely no idea how to write him a poem on a subject I have no feeling with. So instead of research I decided to make it into a fun poem :)
