Hummingbird

Nearby my lovely rosebush, a surprise I got, as I approached my house one day. From out of nowhere – right before my eyes - a hummingbird appeared, but did not stay. It hovered for one second -such a sweet and splendid tiny bird in front of me, but then it flew away. For a repeat performance I was hoping! Would I see that fairy bird with wings so fast again? A short time later, I was at my sink and looking out my kitchen window when that same bird came, then left - quick as a wink. My chance encounter with it was so nice, for in one day it visited me twice! July 11, 2020 for the BIRD Poetry Contest of Constance La France

Hello Andrea … another fine sonnet from your pen Andrea. I enjoy reading and writing about birds, particularly when they visit our gardens. I read so much about hummingbirds but we don't have them here. What we do have though is eastern spinebill honeyeaters; tiny and flighty - thank you Andrea - Lindsay

Love the way you referred to it as a fairy bird. Very good description of this lovely little bird. My grandmother loved humming birds too and had many in her garden all summer. I love humming birds too. Great job. God Bless, JB

Now THAT'S enjambment! You write sonnets exactly the way I love to read them, Andrea. You tell a story of a lovely double encounter with the beautiful hummingbird, with such exquisite rhymes and rhythms so carefully laid out. You have mastered this form, my friend. A FAV!
