Hugged My Memories

escapism through dreams
a way to lose this plaintive scowl

the wayward wind
carried in this ocean breeze
teases my emotions
as it wraps itself around me
like your arms once did

i can hear your voice
tarry in the zephyr of summer
as the salted spray kisses me

i can feel my heart sinking
with the same force as my feet
as i try to stand my ground
against the ocean's fury

it lashes back
with the same force
as my emotions
as i stand alone
stranded on the sands of time
counting these grains
as days gone by...

Yes my friend days are like grains of sands but so are we - our lives on earth are according to the Bible three score year and ten - so therefore we must enjoy it to the utmost, let the breeze and gentle wind take you to shores unknown and the waves constantly lapp against your feet reminding you that someone somewhere is doing the same as you and thinking the same as you - you create such beautiful images my friend - love this poem a fave! Congratulations on a deserved win. Hugs, Jennifer.

I have this image of you whipped and whirled by the wind on forsaken beaches, the sands of yearning slipping through your fingers... Ha, ha. That's only your poetic alter ego, I know. But your penning is startlingly real! Superb write. Smiles, Gershon

I've been away too long from your wonderful writings, Sandy - apologies for my absence. Once again you filled my cup with your words. "i can hear your voice tarry in the zephyr of summer" was such a lovely turn of phrase. The ocean is indeed an overpowering presence, as is the forward motion of time... I love how you used sand to tie those two together. Sad poems say so much, and reach so deep. Blessings and hugs ~ John
