“Spring” was written in 1948 when I was nine years old. 
I have written poetry all my life

How My First Poem Was Born

By the age of nine
my poetic urge had sprung
to be part of me-
as new Spring was on its way
with the magic of my pen.

My poetic muse
came to stay with me that day
helping me write, "Spring"-
planted the art of writing
in my heart throughout the years.

By highschool I had written over 1000 original songs poems and jingles. It's so good to know you were also a child poet and it remained a part of your life. Yes, Cursive was used in those days, especially in Catholic schools, where you had to practice for hours!! :)
