How Much For the ''Tappan Vee'' Bridge

Tradition in old English proves
The plural for roof was once rooves
Back then grooves in courses
From heavy hooved horses
Formed goofs in the turf known as gooves


Author's note:  We keep a dial telephone in the house so that the youts who visit us can try 
it out!  Many have never seen or used one before.  And what does this nonsense have to do 
with the above?

In grade school we learned that "builded" was just as acceptable as "built," but you never hear anyone saying, "Jack builded a house." I love limericks and this is really well done. I saw a funny movie in which a blonde girl is stuck in a motel with dial phone, a really "old fashioned place" She needs to dial out and can't figure it out. She keeps pressing her finger on the round dial like just digging at it, not knowing she has to simply turn it. I just laughed so hard at that scene! In my ESL class, i sometimes bring a record player and they just gawk at it, like what it is?? Login to Reply
