How many times can I say I'm fine?

Shadows of past lovers flicker on the ceiling
I'm better, but it's still slow healing
You know I haven't slept since you left, but hell that's a process
But for me, this is progress

I've been fraying at our fabric
Strung out,
lips cracked,
from holding back
biting on my bottom lip
I'll say I'm fine just to shut you up

I built my walls to the clouds
Because of you, now I crash from windows to broken glass

There's gotta be something more for me
More to freedom than chasing ghosts
I freefall into foreign waters
You tore me down, you ripped me in half

How many times must we walk this line?
How many times can I say I'm fine?

We say it as a cloak to cover what we really feel, but it's never accepted by the one who has hurt us. They feel the need to rid themselves of guilt. We don't have to say it, ever, but until we mean it, we'll keep pulling at those fraying seams, chasing that ghost, and freefalling from windows. Unless we can tear down the walls that we built that keep us locked inside that self-imposed prison. That's when we need to do a little ripping of our own.

There is no feeling of which I am more certain, then feeling completely understood.. A.S.
