How Clean

Today I cleaned for hours
Getting rid of mostly dust.
If I did this more often,
I’d feel less worn out, I trust.

Yet unlike many others,
Who have homes that sparkly shine,
No one would ever use that phrase
About this place of mine.

My husband vacuums every day
And I scrub when I must,
But I don’t have the patience
To move tchotchkes* just to dust.

We all decide how much we care
About how clean or neat
Our living quarters need to be
To make us feel complete.

*a Yiddish word meaning decorative objects

Sigh! A mite of dust here or there -- in my house, they pretty well fare... lol. Here's to 'a little less than perfection.' ~ Haimishe Herschel

There is such a thing as having a home too clean and looking as if never lived in! I had an aunt like that. Her parlor was used only when she had company, otherwise one had to sit in a small den. As a bachelor I do my best to house-clean and when I can't I hire a lady friend. / Maurice
