Hotdogs For Dinner

His lovely bride was no cook, tried she might He labored on construction till the night He worked up a heck of an appetite Rushing on home, must have missed every light Kicked off his boots as he held her so tight Leisurely asked what’s for dinner tonight He looked at her two hotdogs, what a sight One’s for you, one’s for me, is that alright Eyes so bright and smiling with much delight The young newlyweds dined by candlelight Gingerly nibbled to enjoy each bite So she remembered their very special night As she glanced far beyond in the moonlight Fond memory, now young widow’s hindsight AP: Honorable Mention 2021 Earlier version submitted on November 4, 2017 for contest BEST RHYMING POEM SEPT-OCT sponsored by JOHN HAMILTON and on October 31, 2017 for contest END OCTOBER STANDARD sponsored by BRIAN STRAND

I love this poem. Reminds me when I was a newlywed. She could not cook very well but I always loved the meal and the love put into it.
