Hot Summer Day ----- Contest Entry

Hydrants open; the waters gush and flood the burning road. The children cheer and run in suits, to feel the flowing cold. While mom and pop stand side by side, the neighbors prom- enade, and Mary Jack and Adam splash, as Becky cools her feet. The Conners dash with flapping towels, into the flooded lane. DeMarco tries his best to swim, but blames the cobble stones. Beside a dirty bin, a boy stands all alone. His cheeks are thin and pale; he's almost skin and bone. His eyes go wide, as little Leslie leaves the light to take him by the hand, and leads him back amongst her friends. We all remember Zack. 9-3-2017

Such an exciting time when they'd open the hydrants. I remember all the kids rushing out of their houses on our block. Thanks for the memories!

I'm so glad you liked it :) The prompt for the Hot Summer Day contest is a picture of kids in a street playing in the water from the hydrant. I think the contest is still open :)

XD oh, no! I guess the last phrase is too ambiguous. It does sort of sound like he died or something, doesn't it? Was trying to go for reminiscing on the day he joined leslie's group of friends XD lol I really let Zack slip through the cracks, didn't i? Oh, boy... I'm glad it's still emotionally effective even if it wasnt the happy ending I intended... alas I really appreciate your feedback. Thank you :)
