Hope Stick

I drop a stick down from the bridge Into the waters far below It carries my hopes with it To see how far my stick will go I am hoping it will travel far And bounce upon the eddies Missing all those obstacles Going straight and fast and steady I hope the bends to navigate In the middle of the flow To get caught by vegetation Means there’s nowhere left to go My stick has now bobbed out of sight In the sunlight’s bright reflection I hope to see it soon again Still going in the right direction Not all my hopes on this stick rest Because that would be silly I have another in my hand To throw into the Swilly ( Swilly is a river in Donegal Ireland )

Maybe we could collaborate on " Hope Rock " It has to be easier than "Hope Stick" shorter too, By nature, rocks don't provide much hope----but friends do---don't be a stranger Andy

The rock went down to the river bed strange it did not float I said I'll just pop home and grab some wine that should make it float just fine. And perhaps a wedge of cheese A biscuit or some bread Would make the rock, float with ease Right off that river bed Remember Andy you started it, Ha ! Lewis Carol move over !

I knew I was doing something wrong---I was using a rock---and that only traveled one way----down, not leaving me much to write about . Haha I simply love your poetry.

Hi Robert, that is a lovely well rhymed poem, reminds me of when I were a child we had a channel at the back of our house and I always used to drop sticks in and follow them as far as I could go, I am sure Peter would love that.......Vera...............
