Hope Prevails
a smile
so forced
contrived
your eyes
have lost their spark
i hardly recognize your face
as the contortions
betray the pain
for so long now
you’ve tried to dispel
the toll on your body
hard to bear
as exhaustion drains
the life out of you
the color flushed
quelling how fears grow
we strive to do our best
to stay forever hopeful
