Holding a Grudge

Can someone explain to me holding a grudge? Even when it’s harmful some folks won’t budge On their personality it leaves a noticeable smudge In the long run, it’s a terrible thing to misjudge. Isn’t it true that jealousy leads one to begrudge? Can someone explain to me holding a grudge? It’s sort of like a lingering oily residue called sludge Every time we stoop down, persisting to judge. I’d rather take the wasted time making fudge Or, giving somebody who needs one a little nudge Can someone explain to me holding a grudge? Seems like holding one long would be a drudge! Holding a grudge makes one walk with a trudge And worse still, I suspect, to always misjudge Even when it’s harmful, some folks won’t budge Can someone explain to me holding a grudge?

It is all my favorite part, but this part especially "Holding a grudge makes one walk with a trudge And worse still, I suspect, to always misjudge"

I think that's probably the heart and soul of the poem.

Forgive and forget is best, holding a grudge means one’s never at rest. Well said Milton… Belle

I believe that's true, as well, Belle. Thanks for your read and for your comment.

Great Monorhyme, Milt. Makes no sense to me, the longer one holds it the worst the situation gets. Live and let live, I say. Have a great day! Bill

Thank you, Bill. You are absolutely correct, and the longer it is held, the more damage it will do to the person holding it.

Your right Milton. Forgiveness is sometimes hard to achieve but we should all forgive because if we dont we harbour the anger and pain inside of us and that is not good. Plus God commands us to forgive. Well written with true meaning. Have a joyful day my friend...

Same to you, Michael. Yes, we cannot expect forgiveness if we are not willing to forgive. That's true.

Well said, Milt. I’ve never understood ‘holding a grudge’. More often than not the grudge holder is actually the guilty party. Criminals are notorious for it… they commit a crime and then hold a grudge against the police for trying to catch them…. The bare faced cheek of it! Terry
