Hold Me From a Distance

I revisit this realm where your actions cannot, Will not, Stifle my nascence Never enough, Never enough Forward, I tear away my onion skin Embattled by a loathing humanity I throw solaced emotions Upon rusted turnstiles Spinning round, Right round, Round, Right round But, you wouldn’t call me baby. Good. Because I was told That it is better to be hated for who I am, Then loved for who I am not So, hate me. HATE ME! HATE ME! Forever… …always. Lunge at me with your preconceived notions Of why I mean(t) the world to you Open your arms of Fort Knox and Tell me why I WILL NOT ASCEND Upon your generic wings Made of Atheist smiles Because, If you don’t believe in anything, Why Oh why, Would you believe in me? ©D.J.E. -11/19/2015

Brilliant!!! It's all about being on guard and staying true to yourself. There is something so personal pressed inside this composition, as well as it is universal. "Tell me why I WILL NOT ASCEND, Upon your generic wings, Made of Atheist smiles" So so powerful...this poem is going to heaven if it's not already there. Excellent work as always! Always, Laura

Wow, powerful stuff Drake! Had to read it twice. I loved how this piece steadily got more and more intense ... "why would you believe in me?" Killer ending dude! And I actually chuckled at your song reference Right Round. I seem to have been missing out on some great poetry ... good to be back!

It has been so long, and your presence and your (voice) have been missed greatly.....and this poem is another example of why so many of us have always felt the passion behind your words. You bring emotion and truth to everything you write....I see that hasn't changed!! Hope you are back again to stay awhile !! :)

It is better to be hated for who Iam /then tobe loved for who I am not. A significant statement..I so believe in this statement. To be who we are no matter what if they believe in us or not,and to never act whom.we are not just to feel loved. I so miss your poetry Drake..and reading this I know why. A fave.

There's a word that irks me to no end: Perception. It affects our entire well-being & the people we are surrounded by. Recently, I read a quote that I'll be embracing, going forward: "However low you perceive me, I will always ascend to higher ground". I've missed your work too, Charmaine. Thanks so much!
