His Dark Materials 2

I like fantasy but personally think it should be measured, one parallel universe is fine but three is not fine; you could say that the sky's the limit but I disagree, rather like no budget for building a house it seems to me. A client came to me - said he wanted the best house in the road, no financial limit, wonderful - I could do anything, maybe a gold swimming pool ready for a rich fool, perhaps we could have a different universe in each room - very cool. I put a ceiling on my fee, enough for a golden pee; Leonardo strolled by - 'Very nice John - who is this dude? His extravagances seem ludicrous and incredibly rude, who on Earth would want a chandelier shaped like a phallus?' It was finished, proud and erect, the children had grown up, and realized that they may well have stayed where they were before.
