Hip Hop:Fourty-Eight Bars (Part One of Three)

So, what if I could sell a rhyme for a dollar and a dime? Would I take my time and rhyme, or would I still commit the crime Of letting all of my words slip out of my mouth just like slime, Or would I grab my pen, and try to write something more sublime. So, what if I could sell a rhyme...would I choose to grab the "mic," And allow every ounce of common sense to take a hike. Commercialize the prize to give executives what they like, Because they only want to allow the record sales to spike. So, what if I could sell a rhyme...would I choose to play that way, And would I flop around on top, just so they would let me stay, Giving them another stupid cliche, just for a pay day, When, deep down, I know that I have more important things to say. So, what if I could sell a rhyme...would I go after the belt, Or would I "rap" about the same things that caused your brain to melt. Would I talk about dealing drugs that I never ever dealt, Trying to reproduce feelings that I never ever felt. So, what if I could sell a rhyme...and,for the worst, take a turn, Acting as if I possessed plenty of dollars left to burn, Talking about all the money that I am yet to earn, While talking to these kids, as if they had nothing else to learn. So, what if I could sell a rhyme...would I talk about the girls, Who all dance in the videos, and proceed to toss their curls, Who expect to be covered in nothing but diamonds and pearls, And only climb that money tree, just like professional squirrels. So, what if I could sell a rhyme...would I talk about the power, Even though my moves were being watched from ivory towers, Even though my money was being stolen by the hour, As my money accounts turn into dough without the flour. So, what if I could sell a rhyme...and relieve this Hip Hop drought, By approaching the microphone, with something to talk about. Would I choose to prove myself beyond a reasonable doubt, Or would I choose to sell a rhyme, by choosing to just sell out.
