Mossy vines served as camouflage for a decaying headstone
No family members left to maintain is known
Thus hidden and fallen into disrepair
Deeply weatherworn and embraced there
This marker sets into the ground alone

Mossy vines served as camouflage for a decaying headstone
Threads of piercing light filtering through windblown
Limbs surrounded by trees, ferns, blackberries, and wildflowers
Vegetation constantly threatening to swallow so it cowers
To nature’s breath, and tranquil outdoors, a hidden embellished millstone

Mossy vines served as camouflage for a decaying headstone
Dreams of once beloved family heir now all alone
Notched poem about their lives fades with memories written
Reveal the epitaph of who's buried and hidden
Now without pain in the heavens mansion near God's throne

Hi Eve, You have penned a sad piece. I could feel an overwhelming sadness within each line. I must say this write is good as whole but the line that stood out to me was "No family members left to maintain is known" . I have a feeling you will be on the winners list. I wish you the very best in the contest. A Big seven:-) Alexis

You penned this so beautifully Eve with wonderful imagery of this sad scence - I hate to see graves lying unkempt and unloved - I am being scattered so no trace of my existence will be etched in stone:-) Good luck in the contest:-) hugs Jan xx7

It's true that these gravestones are to be found often in dilapated graveyards where nature has taken over again; "surrounded by trees, ferns, blackberries, and wildflowers". Beautiful vision Eve.

Brilliant in message and presentation, may I wish you the best in the contest; but more important in a large family to mourn your passing when the time comes (hopefully many years down the road).
