Howard Robard Hughes
Famously rich recluse
Dreams led him to the lap of luxury
Followed by nightmarish mysophobic OCD

Poetry notes:

"He was the richest man in America, the world at his fingertips, and yet he was a prisoner to his own dark fears. His achievements were astounding – he created the fastest plane on the planet, was the driving force behind the largest aircraft ever built and was a pioneer in film making – and yet he is remembered for the eccentricities that drove him from hero to hermit. In his heyday, he was a romantic figure, with movie starlets flocking to be seen on his arm, and yet he spent the last 26 years of his life as a recluse, obsessed with cleanliness and controlling every aspect of his environment even as he sunk deeper and deeper into madness."

You are exactly right, Louise. One person sharpens the face of another, and vice versa. I've been with PoetrySoup for 13 months and have learned a lot; but overall I only know a whisper :) ~Mark

A veritable cornucopia of lexicon and learning! (---whatever that means. LOL). Seriously, this one about Hughes lit my fuse! Best wishes, Gershon

He was a fascinating enigma who had a tragic end, this captures his spirit well, I think.

Learned much about him from the movie...whatever parts are true. I remember seeing him on tv as a kid. Nicely done.

I like your work. Way to go. Today he probably could be helped with modern medicines plus counseling which is a good thing for those suffering from this illness today but for him it was a sad plight. Enjoyed reading your work. Sara

This is my second Clerihew. According to the definition, "A Clerihew (or clerihew) is a very specific kind of short humorous verse, typically with the following properties: It is biographical and usually whimsical, showing the subject from an unusual point of view..." I feel like I checked all the boxes except for the "humorous verse." This clerihew doesn't seem humorous to me. Oh, well... if at first you don't succeed...
