You were my woman all those years ago,
Our college days were the sweetest I’ve known,
I though you’d be my wife, but your parents
Said I was not you kind; they’re immigrants.
Would disown you if you wed American,
I thought that I’d never see you again;
They threatened to send you ‘home,’ made you leave,
Their pride meant more to then you happy.
But here,
You were’ born here,
You grew up here,
Choose without fear!
Don’t feel guilty, here you belong,
What once stopped us, now it’s all gone,
All those years, we’ve waited so long

So you married someone who looked like you,
Had no love for him, and he cheated too,
But your family bragged about their daughter,
Cared not a bit of what it did to her.
Ten years of living someone else’s life,
Until you could no longer take the strife.
You walked away and, oh, they were so mad,
You came straight to me, had enough of the bad.
You’re here,
With me right here,
We’ve had a year,
Life without tears!
