Here So Nobody Sees Me Cry

You… I wanted you.
 How is it possible to crave something I can never have?
 Your presence fails to leave my side.
 Your image fails to remain forgotten… it can never become something I won't want.
 And here I am again, yearning for your touch, yearning for your sweet voice, yearning for those late-night calls.
 Here I am, hopelessly waiting to wake up from this nightmare, because how could a paradise like ours end up broken in the blink of an eye, shattered into a million pieces?
 I prayed… I prayed to keep you by my side.
 I prayed the happiness I had could linger longer than just a couple of months.
 I hopelessly wished you’d never disappear from my sight.
 And here you are, still lingering, torturing my heart.
 Your soul is here, but your heart and mind have long since left my side.
 Your words remain, repeating the empty promises we once made. They’re engraved deeply in my memory.
 They ache.
 I thought I had finally found a reason to let go, yet here I sit, drowning once again, holding onto something that was once mine but is now so far, so painfully out of reach.
 Still holding onto feelings I fought so hard to release.
 Still holding onto the expectations of what we could have been.
 Still holding onto the version of you that you imprinted into my head.
 I’m haunted, love.
 So deeply haunted.
 This love has consumed me whole.
 Those constant dreams keep pulling me deeper into that abyss. I wish I could forget you.
 Yet somehow, I have forgotten how to do so.
 I’m followed everywhere by the curiosity of all those “what if” thoughts.
 Because what if you never left?
 Would we have overcome all the obstacles in our way?
 Would we have fixed the broken parts we both carried along?
 Would we have learned to keep trying instead of giving up?
 Tell me, my love…
 If you had never left,
 would we have finally been able to meet somehow?
