Here I Go Again

HERE I GO AGAIN! Here I go again in to another year, I’m sure that I will sin and fail the Lord, I fear. I’ve promised Him before to live a better life, But trouble comes once more and I fall in the strife. What really is this thing of resolutions new That to this day I bring, of things I say I’ll do? Why January first? Why do I look ahead? Or look back at the worst of things that I now dread? I’ve knelt in prayer before, of sin I did repent, And yet I failed once more and back in sin I went. So now the devil tries to whisper in my ear; He tells me many lies and makes me more to fear. Not only will remind me of my faults that way, But sins of others find who wronged me on a day. Some people did me ill, with ways they did offend; Should I forgive them still and with them make amends? The Spirit then steps in and whispers in my ear, “Though you know they did sin, just make it disappear! When Jesus spoke of days when others do us wrong, He said, ‘Forgive their ways and do not keep it long.’ He said, ‘Not just one time in any given day, But six more ways to find to make amends that way. And then go far, far past those seven times forgive, And make forgiveness last four hundred more to live.’ ” If Jesus could command forgiveness many times, Then I know He could plan to likewise do for mine. So, here I go again, another year to face, And knowing if I sin, I can count on His grace. When I cry out in prayer, in sorrow I repent, He’ll meet me gladly there and won’t my plea resent. Then I should reach out, too, when others do me ill, Forgive the things they do, and keep on loving still.
