Here I Am

That's how I am and I should not be surprised. It's how I really look. I am not astonished at what I am. I'm flesh and blood. That's the way I am, that's my body. I see myself in the mirror, Trying to find some flaw. I look at my hands, I look at my face I look at my whole body, And I see a naked body Unsatisfied with his reality. Trying to hide his image. This is how I am, that's my body. I must accept what I see and what I am. I should not let the complex Dominate me and confuse me. I have to understand That this is my body. And that my mirror just reflects The truth of a before and after. Through the years, It notifies us of the changes. That's why I feel proud. That this I see in front of me, It is only a mirage of what I am; An aging body And of what I was before. That's the way I am, that's just the way I am.

I enjoyed your poem, Charlie. It mirrors my vanity and that of so many... when in fact we should be thankful for all our parts that work. We are so much better off than many people and forget how we should feel appreciation. Thanks for that reminder...
