Here Comes the Gun

It’s happened again
A message’s been sent
By using a gun
Instead of a pen

Again I awake
To the news of this hate
While rubbing my eyes
I learn of their fate

There’s something so wrong
When you rise for the sun
Yet all you see
Is hate, hate and guns

I am an elementary school counselor, and one of my children has had reoccuring nightmares since his father thought it would be a GREAT idea to take him across the street to a park and let him see a deceased person. They hear gunshots often in their neighborhood, and what a wonderful dad, huh?

Caren, I had a wonderful school counselor during my 6-8 grade. I think the school figured out my daydreaming and lack of effort was result of the drunkiness & violence I witnessed every night. I’m not sure how they knew, maybe the bruise my Ma tried desperately to conceal when called in to school for my bad behavior. Mrs. Goldstein would see all the kids in similar backgrounds, she was a sweet lady, she’d inquire how things were and encourage more attentiveness on my part in school. Caren, you are a huge value to these kids, especially these crazier than ever times we live in. Per the fool father that thought it would be character building to expose his son to macabre side of life, yes, twisted, ignorant dad.
