Her Dream
As crystallized ice melts away
And fire breaks the morning
She lies in bed dreaming
What started out as breath taking
Now turns for the worse
And steams her mind
Her breathing, shallow
Her eyes, sunken
Her face, fading
And then, it closes in
There’s nowhere to go
There’s no escape
It’s coming for her
She screams for help
No one answers, she’s alone
Vines entangle her
Thorns bite her flesh
Fear grips her heart
Through the tangle of forest plants
She pushes harder
Trying to escape
She’s trapped by a wall
In desperation she claws at the wall
Breaking fingernails and flesh
She tries climbing, too steep
She wants to turn and disappear
It’s too late, there’s no escape
It’s behind her, it’s here
Choking her every movement
She stops resisting
And…
As the crystallized ice melted away
And the fire broke the morning,
She lay in bed dreaming
