Notes About The Poem

Henry David Thoreau

American naturalist and writer, Henry David Thoreau,
left society for a cabin in woods to live simply and solo.
He hunted arrowheads, wrote essays, poetry and philosophy.
A leading transcendentalist was America’s first hippy.

It struck me as a kind of "rite of passage" though he wasn't overly enamored of his neighbors. The farmer who devoted some portion of his day to the ingestation of bone to furnish his body with the raw material is hilarious as is likewise, those planning to go to Tierra del Fuego ( Land of Fire) and their final destination.

Dear CayCay, I love the transcendentalist movement, which viewed life through a whole different lens and didn't stop at the 5 senses. I am working on a transcendental poem as we speak to bring it forward and explore how we can view life. I truly appreciated reading your poem today. Blessings, Daniel

Awwn wow, yes I've heard about him, you've so beautifully depicted how he nurtured the philosophy and nature in his heart, seeking solace not midst the chaos but somewhere that takes one closer to the truth of one's own self. A brilliant clerihew, dear CayCay! I've never tried this form ever but would like to some day ~ sending you poetic light and warmth of starsz 🍁⭐🍁🌙💫

Progressive, philosopher, died young of tuberculosis. He liked Hinduism over Christianity & many did not forgive him for that~ I can't believe we both chose a clerihew today! ha yours is really goooood...🫶

Isn't it so very Christian of those people to not forgive him? To me, it's an oxymoron. As he was dying, his aunt asked if he'd made peace with God. He replied, "I did not know we had quarreled." I LOVE THAT I've been his fan since I did a report on him in the 10th grade. Seems like you and I would enjoy a Thoreau discussion. It was difficult to decide what to leave in/take out about him in clerihew form. Thanks ever so, I'll be by - you know! CayCay
