Henchmen
Henchmen want to bring me down.
I fret and frown.
Hardly! I look at Jesus’ face -
I’m bathed in light;
the son’s oxygen, or glitter-glow
from snow or stars,
the waxing or waning moon,
the sea harpooned - she waits
for me, beckoning me onto the deck.
I fret and frown -
hardly. I know to who I belong.
My longing for adventure,
slightly less than my love for Jesus Christ.
Henchmen want to bring me down.
Christ already put a nail in their coffin.
Slow-suffering like sugar cubes
in my tea; they dissolve into anonymity.
My God lasts forever and a day -
this only said to bolster the beauty
of eternity, where wholeness never ends.
