Notes About The Poem

Heavenly Gifts

The sounds of music, poetry,
how they can entrance
and soothe the savage soul.
Enchanting is the sound of notes,
for music speaks without a word
and words of poetry play melody
without the sound of music;
so heavenly are these gifts-

these gifts that spring forth from
collective unconsciousness-
an endless stream of art.
And finding...pausing there
upon that inward road-
comes transformation of thought
to spirit sounds of notes and words
that calm the savage soul.
