Heartache Takes the Cake

A rainbow of flavours
In every bite
I've savoured the sweet
And the spice of each
Plunged my tongue deep
Into pain's body
The depths of which met me
Eager to parley
The difference is plain
When your body is broken
You're glad you're alive
Unlike heartache
When you just want to die.

Those last 4 lines sum it up. Especially a long time relationship because a short one makes you spill tears in your beer.

Hugs. Love is grand. We know we love when it hurts. Keep loving. Love you, Mo.

Yeah, the longer deeper ones take a stiffer drink too to get over ;), ...though he for whom this was written, took me years to get over, wasn’t till I broke up with next one of 3.5yrs that I figure I was really over that one.(actually, heart still smarts, love never really goes away) xomo

Oh wow Maureen reading this after now getting to know more about you; this poem really hits home about knowing what I now know, and wanting to know more about you; other then you are a great poet. Thanks.

Without pain we'll never know love fully. I still believe, with knowing this, I'll swan dive into its abyss, happily. Nothing is real. Everything is temporary i believe, except love...and that what God is! ... I'll be gone for a few days. Of you want an interesting poetic vacation...check out a poet named 'Dialectic Crisis'. This artist amazes me. Blessings

wow, I really like this one and how you compare the two kinds of pain. I came way back to your earlier work as I have seen your current poetry!

This is very insightful. I think of how painful emotional hurt is. It is much worse than broken bones because the wounds of this kind of hurt never completely heal. For those of us who have been ravaged and have healed somewhat, we can understand completely.
