Heart Paths

Can we perpetuate the pleasure felt
When moved by our spirit

Heart in motion can be balanced
Like a wheel it makes tracks.

Countless ages have formed roads
Where hunger has beaten a path

Whether to tree or honeycomb
Or shelter of a lover’s arms

Waiting on the back porch swing
Not knowing the time of arrival

Anticipation is a fever unbroken
Burning and tingling with quiet fire

Corralling our emotions for moments
Expectations as high as the stars

Knowing from experience
That the heart rules all.
