Notes About The Poem

8th April 2026

Heart Breaker

He said he'd give me the moon
One romantic afternoon
So I waited eagerly
For the moon to come to me
He gave the moon on bent knee
As it was made of paper
He received a heart breaker.

I agree with Victor, the last line was a little scary, but I am thinking maybe it was an origami alligator made of folded paper that some people are so gifted to be able to make. Sara K..Creative work for the contest. Way to go.

Hi Sara, I suppose the last word was scary, it was meant as a joke write and the last word rhymed. Have changed that last line to be more acceptable.Thank you, Beryl

Your last line surprised me. I prefer a star for a moon. Best of luck.

Dear Beryl, what a sharp, necessary bite in that ending. I’ve spent a lot of time sitting with the wreckage of "paper" promises, those grand, weightless gestures that look good on a sunny afternoon but offer no light once the sun actually goes down. When someone offers a hollow substitute for the real thing, they shouldn’t be surprised when the response has teeth. Blessings, Daniel

Thank you Daniel, it is annoying when someone makes you a promise and that promise is never fulfilled. One can get over the disappointment, but they will never forget. Blessings returned… Beryl
