Heart Bound

Somedays
I wish to carve out my heart
Deep within my soul
Removing it from my aching bones
So that I can see
Does it really bleed
I want to hold it closely
Feel it beating within the palms of my hands
Watching what is keeping me alive
And as the years go by
Will the beating ever begin to slow
