Free Verse: Tribute to scientists and writers David George Haskell (The Songs of Trees) and Robin Wall Kimmerer (Braiding Sweetgrass). Others include Peter Wohlleben and Suzanne Simard.
All my life I never thought
trees were truly alive
like me.
They have no brain.
They cannot walk or talk.
But I find out now
from indigenous teachings
they do have wisdom.
Now then, what wisdom
do have I?
I've heard they have songs,
ancients thought they made
prophecies.
Some scientists now see
the trees for the forest.
Are they conscious? You tell me.
Or, better yet. Ask a tree.
Listen for the song.
