Free Verse: Tribute to scientists and writers David George Haskell (The Songs of Trees) and Robin Wall Kimmerer (Braiding Sweetgrass). Others include Peter Wohlleben and Suzanne Simard.

All my life I never thought trees were truly alive like me. They have no brain. They cannot walk or talk. But I find out now from indigenous teachings they do have wisdom. Now then, what wisdom do have I? I've heard they have songs, ancients thought they made prophecies. Some scientists now see the trees for the forest. Are they conscious? You tell me. Or, better yet. Ask a tree. Listen for the song.

Thanks so much Connie for your thoughtful and kind comments. I think I recall comments in the past that show your love and connection to trees. You might be interested in checking further tree references in my poem Talking Tree Truth. It is amazing what these experts have uncovered.

Carolyn, it was sparked by indigenous native America beliefs. The scientists have simply just proven it out. Thanks for your kind comments. All the best to you and Happy Holidays.

Maureen, you're instincts are on point. Trees and plants precede us on this planet by nearly 450 million years. You'd think they'd have learned some things in that time. Thank you so much for your kindred advocacy.
