He Told Her He Was Leaving

He could still see that old flame burning in her eyes But the flame was not for him, that was no surprise He recalled those nights when she had muffled her cries And he had learned too late an old love never dies Then the deceit began with a long string of lies And he pondered options that ended in goodbyes But weakly decided he'd have a few more tries Before the stress of silence cut him down to size He told her he was leaving, not the whens or whys It didn't matter if it was or wasn't wise She said I still love you see how my teardrop dries He laughed and said he'd stay until that old pig flies
