He Rose Not in Hatred
Father of our Nation,
frail and lean,
rose against foreign rule;
yet saw no foe,
sought no revenge .
"If need be, our nation may die
that humankind might live," he said.
But no land should govern another;
for liberty belongs to all.
His creed was truth,
love, and nonviolence;
his vision was equality and brotherhood.
His call was not for one nation,
but for the rights of all mankind -
for a world united,
to live in freedom.
