 He

 and

 She

He swings his arms and strides ahead She walks three steps behind The center of the universe Cares not what’s on her mind The bacon? Oh, he brings it home Though she works longer hours He smiles and sees his savings grow But what she earns is “ours” One day he’ll leave; she’s sure of that Because he tells her so She, too, oft’ thinks of leaving home But has no cash to go A prisoner within his world The dreams she once had died The man she loved will never know How many times she’s cried August 26, 2019 For Silent One's "If You Only Knew" Contest

Oh he knows how many times she's cried, he just doesn't care. He figures she will "just get over it". As you say,"The center of the universe cares not what's on her mind." Excellent piece my friend. Happens all too often in too many lives. God Bless, JB

Well, I lived in Texas for many years and there the people would say, "he needs killing." I know your poem speaks a truth many live, a truth I pray they sooner rather than later work with the universe to exit. A poetically written, dramatic lined poem that emotively reaches out and successfully touches. Poetry hugs ... CayCay

A sad tale of a very unhappy person - being trapped in such a relationship is awful - wish she had packed her bags and left this selfish man. A wonderful gem, is this poem. Hugs and blessings, Jennifer.

You have described my mom when she was with my father. It’s true no one knew. We lived in a family of secrets. This is very well expressed. It should do very well. Bravo!

wow, i love love this one, Carolyn. I have watched enough ID tv to know how prevalent this is just in OUR country alone. Then add to it the radical machismo in other countries. FAVE
