Hawk

On this mountaintop I sit
In solitude reclined –

For such a heightened lift
Soul-weary did I climb
The world foresworn – a bit
(My aching heart inclined)

A flowing form of art
A hawk goes soaring by
In curving – graceful – arc
Suspended in the sky

It liberates my heart
And with the hawk I fly
Heart to beating heart
Eye to seeing eye

Dear John, I adore the mystical spirit of this poem. Your vibrant yet tranquil imagery brings me to the “mountaintop” as I experience your thoughts… and I’m filled with appreciation for your poetic pen and for the easy grace of your cascading rhyme scheme. Exquisite poetry, especially your last stanza. A fav! Warmest wishes.. ~Susan

This is delightful. I feel the mood. I particularly love the phrase ""hawk goes soaring by in curving - graceful arc suspended in the sky". You have a beautiful picture in words.

Welcome to PoetrySoup. Did you know that there was a poet in the 1600's with your name? :O

LOL - Yeah, Michelle, I did. Tough to read him, though - old English. Related, perhaps?

I welcome you with the love of the Lord, expressed by John 3:16 of the Bible, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
