Have Some Birthday Cake

Have some birthday cake Ellie said to her cousin Myra. He asked what it tasted like. This was 1931, it was a worldwide depression. We did not often have cake. Especially cake with frosting. Come here, she said. Giving him a taste of the icing with her finger. His brown eyes lit up as if it was a magical day. Maybe the world was not sad after all. They exchanged huge smiles.

A magic day it was. I can feel his joy. Ellie's kindness was the icing on the cake, I think. What a feel good poem. I certainly feel good after reading it. :)
