Haunted Cemetary

Halloween in 16 lines of Rhyme 10-16-24 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Halloween Graveyard Light intones the creeping darkness Fallen leaves scrape broken paths Distant footsteps, heard in semi-darkness, Wail and weep on incensed footpaths. Growing shadows blot out twilight Darkness descends -a deathly pall – Stone angels watch the hallowed night Tangled weeds grab like black rainfall. An outstretched palm hovers o’re the spine Trembling hands brush at unseen breath Above their graves haunted ghosts align Prickly terror screams in cold sweats. Shouts through chaos in moaning winds From crypts of tears – spirits unleashed Souls trapped in macabre whirlwinds Midnight breaks the spell – souls released.

Hey Sam my friend, what a horror story so well created. This active cemetery and its ghoulish, maggot eaten residents present a terrifying tale. Do these souls rest for a year until next Halloween night next year or will perhaps freshly dug graves open up then!!!!!! A WOW imagination - for me, it's ashes to ashes and then the sea. Blessings Jennifer.

Greetings my friend! Great questions! All Hallows Eve does set my imagination spinning. I love delving into that night of spookiness that ends with the bells of midnight sending everything spooky back for another year! All in all I believe the celebration of All Hallows Eve is a celebration of life over death, laughing at death, telling death you don't have the victory! Hope all is well! Stay blessed, Jennifer!

Dear Tania, I am most remiss in not thanking you for this contest and my placement. I am so far behind I think I am seeing my own taillights! I do love your contest themes and writing about Halloween spookiness is always fun! Gratitude and blessings!

The ambiance created is chilling and unnerving. Even a well kept cemetery can be fear inducing at night. Though I don't believe in ghosts, I won't dare to visit a cemetery at night. "An outstretched palm hovers o’re the spine Trembling hands brush at unseen breath" This sends out chills down the spine. Oh dear one, you can handle any theme with great elan. All the best sweet Sam.

Dearest Valsa, thank you for your patience as I try to, once again, catch up! There was a small cemetery behind our neighborhood. As kids we would go up there at night and scare ourselves silly as our imaginations ran wild! I remember those adventures and based this poem on them. And, I've always loved the spookiness of Halloween. Thank you for your wonderful feedback! Sending you blessings, dear friend!

Hi Karen, Halloween just abounds with scary scenarios, spooky places, mythical creatures and magic. But, everything seems to go back to normal at midnight when the Halloween spell is broken for yet another year. Time for goblins and ghosties to go back to sleep for another year dreaming of new hauntings! Thank you so much for sharing in my All Hallows' fun! Boo :o..

Thank you so much, John! Have always loved the spooky part of Halloween, the part where our imaginations take over and hair on the back of our necks stands up! It was fun to create this spooky, slightly scary scene. Sending you many blessings

Hi Arthur! They do have a mystical allure that we don't seem to be able to resist. There was a graveyard in a field behind my block. We used to go up there in the dark and scare ourselves silly! There was definitely an attraction! Thanks for your great comment! Blessings!!
