Haunted

HAUNTED
I hear your voice going round in my head. It haunts me each night in my restless dreams. I smell your scent on your side of the bed, Though I’ve washed the sheets, you’re still here it seems. I reach out to touch you and touch thin air; Your pillow’s undented, the sheet un-creased. I see your pale face, smiling everywhere And hear your laugh when expecting it least. You’re making me pay for what I have done; Taunting me, haunting me night after night. The neighbours keep asking where you have gone. They offer their sympathy in my plight The police are digging the flowerbed today. They don’t know I buried you far, far away 23rd September 2019 Haunted poetry contest Sponsor - Tania Kitchin
