Happy Normaldays To You, My Friend
Normal days are better than holy days, I believe.
On normal days there is no expectation for the gifts you receive
Like people smiling at you, giving a compliment, or any small treat.
There are no presents to be exchanged
And being alone isn’t strange.
There are no markers of milestones you haven’t reached
Nor markers of memories you don’t wish to keep.
There’s little sentimentality being flaunted about
Just small celebrations of common accomplishments for which we’re nonetheless proud.
As we should be.
There’s less worry that we aren’t doing enough to gather tokens of appreciation for family and friends when we don’t have extra money
No kids embarrassed about their lame handmade Valentine’s Day cards, so just signing, “From me.”
We’re going about in the best way we can,
No need for a festive display of devoutness so carefully planned.
And silence from friends and family doesn’t mean you aren’t valued
They are simply busy, but maybe from time to time thinking of you.
And if they don’t,
you don’t have to know
For your empty mailbox is today
nothing but an absence of bills to pay.
Don’t worry about having a happy holiday on the next holiday ahead
Go ahead, instead, and have a happy normalday, my friend!
