Happy Divorce Day

Congratulations, friend of mine, for getting back on course, And for the sense of joy you found in getting your divorce, We sometimes try an alibi to justify our fate, But you have turned your life around by casting off your mate. We know how hard it must have been to put up with that crap, But you persisted in your wish to wake up from that trap, You stood up for your rights and said that you would not be bossed, But now you know that life is great for someone you have lost. We know how hard that life can be when you are with a jerk, The kind of life you had at home was not as fun as work, Your closest friends are here today to celebrate with you, To stand around and gossip in the way that sisters do. The pleasures of a joyful life are what we need to know, For life is made of memories that happy people grow, And nourished by the tender part of what we do and say, For anything is possible when passion is in play. There may be days when you believe that love is like a hoax, A journey through the maze of love is more than who you coax, But if you help your partner out then maybe you will see, That love is like a well that springs from generosity. Today your heart is free again to flirt with life itself, To make the best of your unrest by leaping from the shelf, The Bozo who you left behind may call you for a date, But you just crossed the finish line and not the starting gate.

I've read your last four poems tonight Bryan and each has been a story superbly told wrapped in your immaculate Norton rhyme and meter. I sense much time and thought goes into each of your works. It shows. Congratulations. Cheers - Gary

Hi Bryan. Sounds like the lab guy was basing his comments on what he thinks sells in his world. That would be a red light for me. Rather than him dismissing you, I would have dismissed him. I don't believe poetry can be taught and other than being able to rhyme or flow I ignore any rules about forms. I write primarily for myself and don't write to fit into others' perceptions of 'what's good'. If others like my work, it's a bonus. Poetry is a fickle beast and certainly not an exact science.. Keep writing and rhyming Bryan. - There are no reasons not to. :) Cheers - Gary

Thank you Gary. I truly appreciate all these really nice things you have to say. I may have told you before, years ago, I visited a college writing lab for input on some of my poems. I was told that rhyming was out of fashion, and freestyle was in, and I was accordingly dismissed. I would stop, but it brings me so much joy to write a new poem. I'm grateful for my readership. For you, as for them, I try to write something special with each poem. Thanks again, your friend, Bryan

You're a good friend to encourage your friend in a time of need through your poetry, Bryan. Hats off to you! This my first visit to your poetry, but I'll be back. I'm following your poetry now and hope you'll follow mine so we can get to know each other. A poet friend to be, Bill
