Notes About The Poem

For Andrea Dietrich's Define it poetically with a list poetry contest

List Poem definition

A list poem consists of a list or inventory of things. The poem is created by a list of images or adjectives that build up to describe its subject. They are very deliberately organised and are not simply random lists of images.

Happiness

Happiness calms like a mother's lullaby. Happiness is fragile like a butterfly. Happiness is the first daffodil in spring. Happiness is listening to a nightingale sing. Happiness is seeing your children succeed. Happiness is a garden without a weed. Happiness is seen in those who dance in the rain. Happiness is the perfect cure to ease your pain. Happiness is watching sunrise in vibrant hues. Happiness is a letter bringing good news. Happiness lies in the arms of the one you love. Happiness is when your hand holds theirs like a glove. Happiness is a poem which connects with your heart. Happiness is being free to express your art. Happiness is when you make someone smile. Happiness is free and always worthwhile.

'Happiness is when you make someone smile. Happiness is free and always worthwhile'. I agree, though I'm afraid many people don't do it, do they? They try to make people as miserable as they are. A poem that made me happy nonetheless, we have so much to be grateful for Good luck in the contest...Hugs

I like the 'dancing in the rain'. Funny how rain is miserable if caught in it alone, but hilarious and joyful when with a friend. So many lovely things in this poem, it has the tone of 'these are a few of my favourite things...'

It has been happiness reading your list on happiness. I feel each couplet has the strength of an adage. I love all of them, especially the concluding couplet-- "Happiness is when you make someone smile. Happiness is free and always worthwhile." Beautiful rhyming too. All the Best dear Silent One. Not enough happiness in the world at the minute, or at least not reported, but if we look inward it still blossoms.
