___________________________________________________________________________

I’m on the verge of losing everything
as lashing tears are thrashing ‘gainst the night
and mournful notes of black rose petals sing
from wells so deep they’ve never seen the light.

My come to Jesus moment on my knees,
I’m at your mercy in my darkest hour.
In desperation hear my praise and pleas,
the moody gloom surrounding me is dour.

These thorny thoughts of you won’t let me loose
and breathing is a fight I might not win.
High hopes and dreams in broken promise noose
from rope of human nature and of sin.

In woeful rhythm beaten heart does beat ~
my blood does sing the blues of your deceit.

I felt like surfing through your site and came across this one. Many of your recent pieces seem softer, but this is a dart…it’s nice to see. The biblical references parallel the tribulations of being human. Good stuff.

So sorrowful, a beautiful sonnet. My favorite, "mournful notes of black rose petals sing" touches my withered heart.

As a capable writer you totally immerse yourself in the troubled waters of the subject of this poem, Susan. Deceit and broken dreams instill pain and feelings of helplessness. For many, hanging on to fragile sanity could be too much to achieve...that thread could easily snap! ~ A round of applause for the perfect form, too! ~ warm regards // paul

Yes, Paul, you have astutely assessed my poem to a tee :)) Under trying circumstances, hanging on to fragile sanity can be like hanging by a tenuous thread - a very unstable situation for sure.. Thank you for your perceptive comments and for lighting up my page with your wonderful presence, my dear friend. Warmest wishes. ~Susan

"and mournful notes of black rose petals sing from wells so deep they’ve never seen the light', I absolutely love those two lines, as I do your whole poem Susan. Beautiful and intense. I read somewhere that "the mirror of a man's heart is his actions" When I read your poem it reminded me of that quote. A definite fave for me....Maria xxx

Thank you, my dearest friend, Maria.. I apologize for the delay in responding to your beautiful comments of appreciation - the busy-ness of my life has taken me away from PS more than I'd like lately.. I love the quote you so eloquently used in your comments, I agree with you and I would add that 'actions speak louder than words', as well.. I relish your lovely thoughts and your inspiring friendship always. Many thanks as well for the fav, lovely lady.. Warmest wishes. ~Susan xox
