How I loved our trips to the local park …
As long as it wasn’t raining you’d be raring to go
The second I got you out of your buggy you were off like a rocket
You’d run towards the swings as fast as your little legs would go
I’d run beside you and lift you onto the baby swing
“Mummy, mummy, please push me” you’d implore
I’d start off gently, then push you a little harder
“Higher, push me higher,” you’d squeal with excitement
*********
Several years passed
Then you were able to climb onto the ‘big swing’ on your own
You’d rock gently to and fro like a pendulum
Then you started swinging higher and higher
with your legs stretched out in front of you
‘Look Mummy, I can reach the sky!’ you’d exclaim
I’d sit on the swing beside you and we’d see who could go the highest …
Of course you always won!
*********
Many years have passed and you’ve finally flown the nest
Occasionally I saunter down to the local park
I love the hear the excited giggles of the little ones at play
If I get the chance I’ll sit on one of the swings …
I find its rocking motion so so comforting
Suddenly all those precious memories of you come flooding back
Sounds of the past Contest
