I like the originality of this haiku (senryu) Timothy. Moving away from the 5-7-5 syllable count makes a lot of sense. Many people do not realize that English and Japanese sound syllables are different from each other. ~ Regards // paul

Exactly! One of the reasons I don't put too much weight into syllables where haiku is concerned.

Not so much a "haiku" in content... but I wanted to express how NOT vital syllable counting is in haiku.

Nice thinking outside the box. Good expressiveness.

I used to write my haiku strictly by those rules and it took me quite awhile to break free my shell. But once I did I felt a lot more free to express myself... pleased you like my poem!

Hey Timothy...I don't know enough about them to know it wasn't true! I read the below comments and laughed at myself!!!!!! I also have FINALLY figured out I guess you are not supposed to title haiku..like I have been doing....duh! Me......oh well...old dogs can learn.......I'll start now with 1.

I'm happy you're trying to keep the spirit of haiku alive! Some haiku poets will conform to the 5-7-5 rule at all costs (but I don't think syllable counting is the point of haiku)... it's about observations and creating a picture in as few words as possible.

Thank you Drake. The only problem is that only those that are familiar with haiku would understand it.
